
Arizona State Senator TJ Shope is calling for investigation into the leadership of Arizona State University’s Athletic Department and the fallout for their student-athletes.
In a tweet announcing his request, the @AZSenateGOP account called the university’s athletic department leadership “disastrous.”

Shope is specifically demanding that the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) investigate Arizona State Athletic Director Ray Anderson for a “raft of improprieties and frankly embarrassing issues.”
Shope sent the letter to ABOR President Fred DuVal on Wednesday.
ASU leadership is coming under fire for its self-imposition of a bowl ban stemming from an NCAA investigation into possible recruiting violations by former head coach Herm Edwards.
According to Cronkite News, “the violations took place primarily during an NCAA-imposed summer recruiting dead period in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Edwards was fired early last season and most of his assistants have either resigned or been fired since the allegations surfaced.”
