Another Failure by the Republican Leaders of Maricopa County

This article contains some graphic language and focuses on a very controversial issue from around the nation. The book “Gender Queer” by author Maia Kobabe has been banned in at least 138 school districts around the country and in at least 32 states nationwide. Even this book’s author has publicly stated that this book is not suitable for children. So the only question I have is why can this book be found in several of the branches of the Maricopa County Library District for our children to access? If you don’t know who sits on the Board of Directors of the Maricopa County Library District, the answer may or may not surprise you.

This book is so vile that if I showed a 12-year-old the same pictures that are illustrated as cartoon characters as real life human beings, I would go to jail for supplying pornographic material for a minor. Because the individuals in the book are portrayed as “cartoon-like” and not real, I guess it is ok.

In this book you will see a (cartoon) individual giving a male oral sex, a frame of 2 naked individuals kissing and coddling each other, with the picture cut in half mid buttocks, a bloody item that females use when they are on their menstrual cycle, etc. Also, in this book you will find a frame that says, “I can’t wait to have your c*ck in my mouth. I’m going to give you the bl*w job of your life.” Tell me, for what reason would a 6th grader need or want to know what a bl*w job is or want to see how to give one?

Most people who oppose bans on books in our libraries and school districts like these and other books say that it is an attack on the LGBT community. Is it really? I come from a family that has 2 adult lesbians, at least 1 bi-sexual male cousin (who also happens to be a child molester), a cousin who transitioned from female to male beginning at the age of 16, and I have several other friends who are gay or lesbian. Most of these people disagree with that statement. A lot of people are ticked off knowing that their young children have access and have been introduced to this type of material in our libraries and schools that wouldn’t allow their young children to be exposed to it in their own homes.

If you think that this type of material should be accessible to our young children in our public libraries and schools, I have several ideas for you. Take your son to any adult strip club in the valley for his 16th birthday and see if he can get in. And it’s not because they serve alcohol. Take your daughter to a adult sex toy store in the valley for her 15th birthday and see if she is able to buy herself a birthday present. Take your son or daughter to any bookstore in the valley and see if they can purchase a Playboy magazine at the age of 14. No minor in Arizona will legally be allowed to do this, so why are they allowed to have access to the same in our libraries and schools.

I completely understand that if a 14-year-old wants to watch porn, they can do so on their personal cell phones, computers, or even find it under their parent’s beds like some of us probably did back in the 80s and 90s. However, I don’t think that any governing body such as a city, county, or school board should support our children to be subjected to such material.

As for the question that I asked at the beginning of who sits on the Board of Directors of the Maricopa County Library District. The answer to that is none other than our “Republican” majority led Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. I know for a fact that this issue has been brought to their attention several times at their public meetings, only to fall on deaf ears as most issues that the public brings to their attention.

Arizona Revised Statute 13-3506 applies to items that are provided in any manner other than the internet, which would include books. For example, if an adult provides a DVD or magazine of pornographic material to a minor, this would be in violation of this statute if it is done knowingly. This act is punishable to a class 4 felony, and if someone fails to report the violation, they could face a class 6 felony charge. It’s about time a lot of people start going to jail for providing pornographic to our children.

I am the only true Republican candidate for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in district 4 to replace Clint Hickman. On day 1, I will bring this issue up to the other 4 county supervisors and hopefully at least 2 more will feel the same way that I do. If I can’t get these types of books banned from the 15 branches of our county library, maybe we can agree to create a “adult only” section in our libraries and have library cards of minors flagged for trying to check out certain types of books.

When did just letting a kid be a kid and enjoy life and stop these mind control games for nothing more than complete control of our children become a bad thing. If we do not start protecting our children and grandchildren, we will lose our nation no matter who or what party is in control.
