A Cochise County teen was arrested this week on weapons charges after a photo of him holding a gun on campus.
According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Valley Union High School in Elfrida regarding a concerning photo of a student.
School officials reported that the photo showed a student, identified as 17-year-old Tyree Munro, holding a handgun on school grounds.
On Friday, May 3, 2024, at approximately 8:30 am, deputies contacted school officials for additional information which led to the identification of Munro who was inside a school building when the photo was taken.
School officials confirmed that Munro had been suspended on Thursday, May 2, 2024, for other issues and they were then notified of the photo of Munro holding the weapon.
Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the residence of Munro and after making contact with him, he was taken into custody without incident. During the initial interview, Munro said that he did have the weapon at school and he wanted to “shoot” another student due to a “beef” he had.
The loaded weapon was recovered from the home and Munro was booked into the Cochise County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct with a Weapon and Minor Possessing a Firearm.
Munro is being charged as an adult and remains in custody without bond.
