Late Morning Collision In Phoenix Leaves Woman Dead and Man in Jail

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a collision involving a city bus, that left a one woman dead, another hospitalized, and a man in jail.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on July 2, 2025, around 9:45 a.m., officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Thomas Road regarding a collision involving a Valley Metro bus. When officers arrived, they located the adult female passenger of the car involved, identified as 29-year-old Emily Analla, with serious injuries. Analla was transported to a nearby hospital, but she did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased. An adult female passenger of the bus suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car, identified as 23-year-old Xavier Manuel, was transported to the hospital with injuries considered to be non-life-threatening. The subsequent investigation revealed that Manuel showed signs of impairment.

Detectives believe that bus was stopped at the bus stop, west of 35th Avenue, on Thomas Road. The car involved was also westbound on Thomas Road when it struck the rear of the stopped bus.

Manuel was treated at the hospital and released from medical care. He was arrested and booked into jail on one count of manslaughter.

Additional charging decisions will be made once toxicology results and the accident reconstruction process become available.
