After a two day crime spree involving six commercial burglaries, Chandler Police Department officers arrested a career criminal, Charles Payne, who has a history of victimizing retail businesses.
On November 10, 2021, after 3:00 a.m., Chandler Police officers were dispatched to an alarm activation at a commercial business near Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road. After officers arrived they located a broken window and found the 56-year-old Payne inside. Payne attempted to evade police and after a short foot chase, he was arrested.
With two other commercial burglaries occurring before Payne’s arrest, police obtained evidence showing Payne committed these burglaries as well. These two businesses were located near Arizona Avenue and Sherman Road. Evidence obtained showed Payne broke either glass doors or windows of the businesses to commit the burglaries.
Detectives were able to show Payne also committed three other burglaries using the same method in the early morning hours of November 9, 2021. These businesses were located near Alma school Road and Queen Creek Creek Road.
Payne was booked into the Maricopa County jail. Payne has a history of burglary arrest and is currently on probation for burglary.
