An Arizona man, Jalil Al-Kinani, who stole federal funding by defrauding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), has been sentenced to 18-months of supervised probation, and was ordered to pay $13,784.00 to HUD for restitution.

According to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Al-Kinani misrepresented his employment status and income to HUD in order to obtain housing assistance from June 2019 to November 2020. Al-Kinani reported he was unemployed and received a total income of approximately $100 per month on his HUD paperwork, when, in reality, he was employed and received approximately $59,952.72 that year, far exceeding $100 per month, which would have disqualified him from receiving housing assistance. Based on his falsely reported income, Al-Kinani received $13,784.00 in financial assistance from HUD.

Al-Kinani was convicted of Compounding, a Class 6 undesignated offense, and will pay restitution in the full amount.
