A prolific vandal, Jordan Quimayousie, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for more than 750 acts of graffiti in Phoenix.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, between January 2023 and October 2024, he vandalized properties in Phoenix’s 19th Avenue Corridor, between Indian School and Camelback Roads. Along with tagging City of Phoenix property like bus stops, sidewalks, and fire hydrants, Quimayousie also spraypainted his monikers on a school, a church, and multiple apartment buildings and businesses.
Quimayousie pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Damage, a Class Four Felony. In addition to prison time, he was ordered to pay $58,204.39 in restitution to the city — the full amount Phoenix spent on clean-up. He was also ordered to pay another $4,206.36 to cover damage caused to an apartment building.
Deputy County Attorney Mischa Hepner, who prosecuted this case, learned about what was happening from neighbors at a community meeting. They raised concerns that this defendant was tagging the area faster than the city could make repairs.
“This case highlights the power of a community working together to make our neighborhoods better,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “Residents spoke up, Phoenix Police Community Action Officers did a thorough investigation, and MCAO’s prosecutor made sure this defendant was appropriately punished and made to pay back taxpayer dollars spent cleaning up his crimes.”
“Employees at MCAO don’t just work for Maricopa County, we live here too,” said Mitchell. “We’re all invested in keeping our communities safe for your families and for our own.”
Prison time is a gross over-reaction to a non-violent crime committed by someone obviously desperate for recognition and having too much time on his hands. What will prison teach him, and what will he be when he gets out? Better to enlist him in the Marines, give him a chance to submit to discipline and develop some pride in himself and the Corps.
blaming the sprayer but not the seller of the tag – how much paint is made and sold to tag? yeah I know – but like with smoking – its hard to smoke if you can’t buy them – butt they are available on sale everywhere.. then we pay for the health cost of their use, or is that modern medicine – there’s now products to remove, protect tags – it’s a ‘art’ form ? a part of the ‘me’ culture? Smoke’em if you got’em
Vehemently disagree. It shouldn’t be any harder to buy spray paint than it is to buy bottled water, and to penalize lawful purchasers of a product for the abuse of it by miscreants is completely absurd. We desperately need accountability in our society. Maybe a stint in the armed services would be a better remedy than a tour in the pokey, but then imagine dying on a battlefield on the other side of the world because you spray-painted a bus. Well, life choices can be like that.
interesting that the tagger has no body tag tattoo’s? There’s hope 🙂
Chop off his hands
And why weren’t the parents of this clown held on charges too. Great parenting skills on display, or should I say no parenting skills on display.
