A man nearly dodged disaster when he left his bed to go to the bathroom on April 1st.
According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday evening, a resident in the Paulden area had a “close call” when a set of wheels from a passing cement truck detached and crashed through the wall of his home.
At approximately 7:35 P.M., the resident was inside his home off State Route 89 when he heard a loud crash in his bedroom. A pair of driver-side rear wheels, still joined together, sheared off a northbound commercial vehicle, traveled off the roadway, and crashed directly through the brick exterior of the house into the bedroom.
Deputies reported a gaping hole in the brick structure where the heavy wheel assembly had come to rest just feet from the bed. The resident noted he had just gone to the bathroom when he heard a loud crash.
Deputies immediately searched further north on State Route 89. Approximately 15 miles from the scene, they successfully located and stopped the cement truck. The driver was reportedly unaware that the equipment had even detached. While the axle remained on the truck, deputies noted the vehicle was missing the entire wheel assembly from one side.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported by the resident or the driver.
