The Clerk of the Superior Court in Maricopa County is alerting residents to a recent scam involving fraudulent demands for payment of traffic-related fines and fees.

Scammers are targeting individuals through text messages and emails, falsely claiming to represent the Superior Court in Maricopa County and pressuring recipients to pay for alleged toll violations, speeding tickets, or parking fines before a supposed court hearing scheduled as early as the following day.

These fake messages often include a QR code and instruct recipients to scan it to resolve the issue. Recipients are warned that failure to act immediately may result in penalties such as driver’s license suspension or additional fines. The Court says this is a scam.

Residents are strongly advised:

  • Do not click on links, download attachments, or scan QR codes from unknown or suspicious messages, as they may contain malicious software.
  • Do not provide personal or financial information in response to unsolicited communications.
  • Do not send payments to unverified sources, especially using payment methods such as cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.

How to Identify a Scam:

  • The Clerk’s Office does not request immediate payment via text or QR code.
  • The Clerk’s Office does not require payment exclusively through gift cards, payment apps, cryptocurrency, or wire services.
  • The Clerk’s Office does not ask for sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers, through unsolicited communications.
