Bicyclist Killed in After Ignoring Traffic Signal in Phoenix

A bicyclist has died after a crash on Friday morning near 24th Street and Sky Harbor Circle.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, at approximately 3:33 a.m., officers responded to the area of 24th Street and Sky Harbor Circle for a collision involving a pedestrian on an electric bicycle. When officers arrived, they located an adult male, later identified as 54-year-old Derrin J. Weber, in critical condition. The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported Weber to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.

Detectives from the Vehicular Crimes Unit responded to investigate.

Preliminary information indicates Weber was traveling southbound on 24th street in the dedicated right turn lane when he disregarded the traffic signal and continued south through the intersection where he was struck by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was evaluated for impairment; however, no signs were observed.
