The Tucson Unified School District will hold a memorial service for Governing Board member Judy Burns who passed away last week. The service will be held at Tucson High School at 5:30 p.m.
Judy Burns, the controversial and contentious member of the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board, died from a massive heart attack. Burns was one of the instigators of the student take over of the Board meeting in April.
In an email dated April 28, Tucson Unified School District Superintendent Pedicone wrote, “Too bad, Judy that they are so well meaning and exploited,” in response to email from Burns in which she describes the student takeover as “pretty impressive.” Burns continued her support for the Mexican American Studies program even after she had been advised that the students were being exploited by adults.
