Suspicious voter activity reported in Glendale

glendaleDuring Ken Bennett’s tenure as Arizona’s Secretary of State, he seemed far more interested in playing with Kleenex and his guitar, than reforming the state’s election process. As a result, a report of questionable behavior by party operatives is once again being reported, this time in City of Glendale.

According to ABC15 News, the City Clerk is “warning early voters to protect their ballots after it received reports of suspicious ballot collection activity. The Glendale City Clerk’s Office has received calls about people offering to collect and help complete early ballots for the general election.”

On Friday, the ADI reported on suspicious activity witnessed by Maricopa County GOP Chair A.J. LaFaro during the primary in August. Ballot box stuffing has been called a myth, but the Chairman saw the Yeti-type beast first hand while monitoring a polling place in Maricopa County.

Tamra Ingersoll, communications manager for Glendale, told ABC15 News that Glendale officials and officials with Maricopa County Elections Department are not participating in any neighborhood collection projects.

“We want to make sure every vote is counted and tallied the way it was intended,” said Darcie McCracken, Glendale’s Deputy City Clerk told ABC15 News. “Safeguarding your ballot and your vote by making sure it is received is so important.”

In his interview with Harris, LaFaro noted that the Legislature tried to stop the practice of ballot box stuffing, but this year, the Arizona State Legislature repealed the law that had previously prevented it.

LaFaro called for new legislation to prevent the practice in the future.
