Winchester Doesn’t Know Address, But Ready For Pima County Run

John Winchester campaign filing

He just moved into District 1, and doesn’t yet know his address, but John Winchester made his run for the Pima County Board of Supervisors official on Wednesday. Winchester announced his candidacy on an obscure AM radio station in Tucson after filing his statement of organization.

Winchester’s filings raised eyebrows when it was discovered that he entered two different addresses on his statement of organization. While one address does not currently exist, the other address was incomplete. According to Winchester, he only moved into the rental complex weeks ago. As a result, it is not surprising that he failed to note the unit number of the townhome on the filing.

Should he succeed in getting on the Republican Primary ballot, Winchester will face watchdog Board member Supervisor Ally Miller. Miller has earned the scorn of the shadier elements in Pima County due to her efforts to expose their illegal and ill-advised dealings.

Winchester said on Wednesday that he was recruited to jump into the race despite the fact that it is “controversial.” He claimed that he had always been involved in politics and “always thought I would run for office. When I saw Ray,” referring to Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll, “step down, I thought we had a chance to get some new leadership in.” He stated that he and the very unpopular Carroll are good friends.

Instead of running for the spot being vacated by Carroll however; Winchester said on Wednesday that he moved into District 1 “a few weeks ago,” to specifically “target” Ally Miller.

Clearly unaware of the current political environment in District 1, Winchester, who has quickly earned the moniker: “the hired gun,” also bragged that he had the support of Oro Valley’s controversial Mayor Satish Hiremath.

Winchester admitted that Miller has worked to protect the taxpayers and expose corruption. Just the day before Winchester made his announcement, Miller advised the public that the Goldwater Institute demanded that the County cancel a “sweetheart deal” with the near-space travel balloon company, World View, because it violates the Arizona state constitution.
