The selection process is as follows:
The appointee must be, like Anderson, a Republican and live in the West Mesa Justice Precinct. Other requirements to be a justice of the peace are that you be a registered voter in Arizona and understand the English language. While some justices of the peace are attorneys, there is no requirement that a justice court judge be an attorney. The appointee will serve out the unexpired term through 2018, and could seek a new term in the 2018 primary and general elections.
Applicants should send their letters of interest along with a resume to the Office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, 301 W. Jefferson, 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003 or ClerkBoard@mail.maricopa.gov. Applications will be accepted through Friday, November 4, 2016.
