Tucson Pedestrian Killed By TUSD Bus

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a fatal pedestrian collision involving a Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) school bus. The pedestrian was identified as 61-year-old Kerry O’Donnell.

On February 1, 2018, at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department were dispatched to the intersection of North Swan Road and East Ft. Lowell Road for a report of a serious injury pedestrian collision involving a TUSD school bus. Upon arrival, first responders located Ms. O’Donnell in the roadway with obvious signs of trauma. She was immediately transported to Banner University Medical Center where she sadly passed away shortly after arrival.

Detectives were able to determine that Ms. O’Donnell was on the south side of the intersection walking westbound across North Swan Road. She was in the crosswalk and had a green traffic signal. The TUSD school bus was traveling northbound in the median lane, approaching the red traffic signal at Ft. Lowell Road. The driver did not see the pedestrian or the red signal light and collided with the pedestrian. The bus driver then drove through the intersection and pulled over to wait for authorities. Two young children were on the bus at the time of the collision. The bus driver and the two children were not injured.

Speed does not appear to be a factor. No arrests or citations have been made at this time, as this is still an on-going investigation.
