Panel To Address Drug Sentencing Reform In Arizona’s HB2303

Arizona Capitol Museum Historic Senate Chamber

As Arizona lawmakers seek solutions to the state’s growing prison costs, a panel of national sentencing experts will examine how drug sentencing reform could save taxpayer dollars and keep residents safe.

The panel will discuss Arizona’s cutting-edge drug sentencing reform bill, HB 2303, as well as legislative reforms that have been effective in Louisiana, South Carolina, Iowa, and Oklahoma. They’ll also offer solutions such as “safety valve” exceptions that have been implemented in other states.

Rep. David Stringer (R), co-sponsor of the new drug sentencing reform bill, has been invited to attend and give brief remarks. FAMM’s Vice President Molly Gill will moderate the discussion. Other panelists include Kevin Ring, president of FAMM, David Safavian, of the American Conservative Union Foundation, Jordan Richardson, of the Charles Koch Institute, and Kurt Altman, from Right on Crime.
