Chandler Man Arrested For Neglecting Horses, Slaughtering Animals

A Chandler resident, Taha Rizwan Hussain, was arrested after the Chandler Police Department received information from a concerned resident about possible animal cruelty to horses on a property near the area of S. Queen Rd. and E. Fry Rd.

Officers found three horses malnourished and needed medical attention. Chandler police requested the assistance of the Arizona Department of Agriculture. Chandler police obtained a search warrant that was served on August 24, 2021.

Three horses ranging from 17 to 20 year-old were found to be emaciated and in critical needed medical attention. The horses were seized by police.

The Department of Agriculture transported the horse to an animal hospital to be treated for their injuries and illnesses.

Investigators located multiple animal remains and tools for slaughtering. Investigators determined that Hussain was slaughtering animals on the property for compensation without a license.

The 43-year-old Hussain, was booked into the Maricopa County jail on numerous charges including three counts of Animal Cruelty – Serious Physical Injury, three counts of Animal Cruelty Neglect, and three counts of Slaughter of Animals for Compensation without a License.
