“Leftist” Love Calls For Furry Supporters To Wear Their Cat Ears To Next School Board Meeting

action alert
Self-described "Leftist ex-school board member," Lindsay Love, is calling for allies to defend anti-Christian furry school board member.

LGBTQ+ activists and their allies are being urged to don cat ears at the Washington Elementary School District Governing Board meeting set for March 9. Radical education activist, Lindsay Love, issued a call to action in support of governing board member Tamillia Valenzuela.

Valenzuela, who wears costume cat ears as part of her furry personae, describes herself “as a bilingual, disabled, neurodivergent Queer Black Latina.”

“@tamival25 is a newly elected AfroLatina, neurodivergent, queer school board member who is experiencing attacks & death threats since the last board meeting, when the board voted unanimously to end a contract with ACU for anti-LGBT values. Please come support her,” tweeted Love, who describes herself as “Leftist ex-school board member.”

According to AZFree News, for over a decade students studying Education at Arizona Christian University have done their student teaching in the district, but Valenzuela has urged her fellow board members to end that arrangement because she claims that the teachings of Jesus Christ are not “aligned with” the district’s priorities.

“Many of you are aware of the situation involving the Washington Elementary School District’s decision to not renew the contract that we have had in place for the last 11 years that allowed ACU students to serve as student teachers in that district. More than 100 of our students have served the district, including 25 student teachers, a majority of whom were hired full-time. In addition, WESD administrators have time and again asked us to send more ACU students because of the quality of our students’ work,” James Griffiths, General Counsel for Arizona Christian University advised staff and supporters last week.

“The school district’s recent decision to ban our students from serving as student teachers was done for one reason alone: ACU’s commitment to our Christian convictions.” Griffiths concluded, “Be assured that we are exploring our legal options.”

In an interview of KFYI’s James T. Harris show, current Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction and former attorney general, Tom Horne, said the decision by the WESD Governing Board to discriminate against Christian students was illegal and he does expect lawsuits to be filed.

From the National Library of Medicine:

Furries are individuals who are especially interested in anthropomorphic or cartoon animals (e.g., Bugs Bunny). They often strongly identify with anthropomorphic animals and create fursonas, identities of themselves as those anthropomorphic animals. Some practice fursuiting, or wearing costumes that resemble anthropomorphic animals. Furries have been portrayed as sexually motivated in the media and popular culture, although little empirical research has addressed this issue. If some furries are sexually motivated, they may be motivated by an erotic target identity inversion (ETII): sexual arousal by the fantasy of being the same kinds of individuals to whom they are sexually attracted. Furries with ETIIs would experience both sexual attraction to anthropomorphic animals and sexual arousal by fantasizing about being anthropomorphic animals, because they often change their appearance and behavior to become more like anthropomorphic animals.
