Governor Katie Hobbs has issued a proclamation calling for a special primary election to fill the vacancy created by the death of Congressman Raul Grijalva in Congressional District 7. The special primary is set for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and a special general election on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
Grijalva died from cancer on Thursday morning.
Federal law (2 U.S.C. § 8) provides that special elections to fill vacancies in the U.S. House of Representatives are held under applicable state laws.
State law requires that the governor must call for a special primary election within 72 hours of the passing of a U.S. representative if there isn’t a general election scheduled in the next six months:
Under A.R.S. § 16-222(B), if the next regular general election is not to be held within six months from the date of the occurrence of the vacancy, the Governor shall call a special primary election to be held 120 to 133 days after the vacancy and a special general election to be held 70 to 80 days after the special primary election.
Gee, what’s the rush? He already missed a gazillion votes in congress…even when his lard butt was in office it was taxation without representation.
Given 47’s all-time high approval ratings, Democrats’ all-time low approval ratings, and the wave of disaffected Dems questioning their party’s moral compass, maybe – just maybe – the AZGOP could get off it’s hassock and work to flip the district.
Ultimately, the power to elect is the voters. Unfortunately, Tucson is a hotbed of leftism and Hispanic advocacy for open borders, and voters for these policies far outnumber those with a more practical viewpoint. No “fix” is necessary for a socialist to win this district. The outcome has been predetermined by the district’s population.
I can almost guarantee the fix is in to get his daughter, Adelita, into that “elected” position. The entire family is corrupt.
I agree! Or possibly the horrible current mayor of Tucson.
Given the level of competency that’s been displayed lately by State and County election officials, it wouldn’t surprise me that Mr. Grijalva’s name will appear on the special election ballot and he will be re-elected.
hahaha! I wouldn’t be surprised!
Be still my heart. I know now in District 7, there will be just one more liberal elected by the people in that district. Don’t know if it will be a Grijalva or a Grijalva minion. Will be interesting to see which POS gets elected. Conservatives needs not apply……
I agree. That stubborn, greedy POS should have stepped down long ago and now we have to suffer through another, possibly rigged, election. If his daughter (la gorda) is in the running, God help us all !
Everyone knows AZ elections are corrupt.
yipe!!!!!!!!!! more elections – they could have done this some time ago as Gordo was gone long ago..
Takes time to fine tune the “election Process”
