Late Night Collision Leaves Jaywalker Dead in Phoenix

Detectives are investigating a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, around 10:59 p.m., officers responded to the area of 36th Avenue and Northern Avenue regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, they located the adult male in critical condition. The Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene and pronounced the man deceased. The adult male driver from the vehicle involved was identified on the scene.

Detectives believe the pedestrian was attempting to cross Northern Avenue in an unknown direction, not utilizing a crosswalk, when he was struck by the vehicle. Preliminary information indicates that impairment may be a factor in this collision.

The adult male driver of the vehicle was transported to a nearby precinct, where he was processed for DUI.
