Victim Identified In Phoenix Homicide

The victim in a homicide that occurred in early May has been identified as 44-year-old Billy Joe Carrethers.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on May 7, 2026, at approximately 9:03 p.m., officers responded to the area of 24th Street and Oak Street regarding an unknown trouble call. Information provided to dispatch indicated that a man, later identified as Carrethers, had been killed inside a nearby home and that his body remained inside the residence.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that earlier in the evening the victim had been killed by another man during an altercation inside the home. Investigators followed multiple leads and identified the suspect as 32‑year‑old Christopher Ebanks.

On May 8, 2026, Ebanks was located and taken into custody. He was booked into jail on charges related to this incident, including murder. At this time, no additional suspects are being sought.
