McCain Diagnosed With Brain Cancer

In June 2017, Sen. John McCain was confused during his questioning of former FBI director James Comey.

Arizona Senator John McCain has been diagnosed with brain cancer according to his office. McCain had surgery to remove a to remove a blood clot from above his left eye on Friday, July 14 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, according to the hospital officials.

Surgeons removed a 5-cm blood clot during a craniotomy. Tests on the tissue were conducted and found that the senator has an aggressive brain cancer.

McCain’s apparent confusion has made headlines recently. The first sign of his disease appeared during his questioning of former FBI director James Comey. Last week, it was evident that his facial muscles appeared to be lax. Many speculated that he had suffered a stroke.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said after the surgery that McCain had been “getting forgetful.” Graham later claimed that he “misspoke.”

Almost immediately his daughter Megan posted a statement on Twitter. It reads in part:

“The news of my father’s illness has affected every one of us in the McCain family. My grandmother, mother, brothers, sister and I have all endured the shock of the news and now we live with the anxiety about what comes next. It is an experience familiar to us given my father’s previous battle with cancer -and families whose loved ones are also stricken with the tragedy of disease and the inevitability of age. If we could ask anything of anyone now it would be the prayers of those who do not who understand this all too well. We would be so grateful for them.”

For his part, the senator tweeted his regret that he would miss “this year’s #PigBook press conference.”

On Tuesday, Arizona Senator Jeff Flake said McCain “sounded great” in a phone conversation. Flake, who could never masquerade as a brain surgeon, added, “I hope that we can get him back here as quickly as possible, we need him.”
