Pima GOP Sues Tucson And Sanctuary City Group, Claims Signatures Not Valid

justice

On July 19th, Pima GOP filed a lawsuit against the City of Tucson and the organizers of the initiative to put a proposal to officially make Tucson a Sanctuary City on the November ballot.

Should the Pima GOP lawsuit succeed, the proposition would not be placed on the ballot.

The City Clerk certified that the Peoples Defense Initiative turned in some 12,400 valid signatures, thereby qualifying its proposal to appear on the 2019 Tucson November ballot. The GOP’s lawsuit contends that the committee and Tucson made several procedural errors, and violated the state constitution as well, when collecting petition signatures, and, in the case of the city, qualifying those signatures.
