Daylajae Hudspeth is in custody after stabbing and killing a man, Dontavius McCaslin, after she had been ordered to stay away from him.

On July 28, 2019 Mesa Police responded to 530 S. Dobson #448 for a reported stabbing. Mesa Police found Mr. McCaslin, with a stab wound. Mr. McCaslin was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injury. The investigation revealed Mr. McCaslin had been in a verbal argument with Hudspeth. Witnesses on scene heard Hudspeth arguing with Mr. McCaslin and described a scuffle occurring in the back room.

Hudspeth remained on scene and was interviewed by investigators. She explained she was in an off and on relationship with Mr. McCaslin and admitted to stabbing him during the verbal argument. According to Mesa Police, some of her statements didn’t match evidence obtained at the scene and although she said she was punched by him, there were no signs of injury to her face.

Prior to the stabbing, on July 20, 2019 Hudspeth was arrested for assaulting McCaslin and had been ordered to stay away from him.

Hudspeth has now been charged with one count of 2nd degree murder and one count of failing to comply to a court order.
