Magnus Tapped To Run U.S. Customs And Border Protection

Police Chief Chris Magnus and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero address media after an officer-involved death in June 2020.

TUCSON – Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus has been tapped to run U.S. Customs and Border Protection by President Joe Biden, according to FOX News. The Biden administration cited Magnus’s experience “addressing immigration issues,” as justification for the move.

Magnus, who has struggled with managing the skeleton crew of the Tucson Police Department (TPD), will have to manage a force of nearly 50 times the size if selected to head the agency.

According to FOX News, Biden “is slated to announce nominations for several top immigration and Department of Homeland Security roles” this week.

Magnus, who became Tucson’s first openly gay police chief, was hired to head up TPD due in part to the fact that he was a vocal Black Lives Matter advocate.
