Retired ASU Police Sergeant Al Phillips Struck And Killed In Tempe

Friends, family, and members of the Arizona State University and Tempe police departments are mourning the loss of retired ASU Police Sergeant Al Phillips. He was killed after he was struck by a driver on Friday morning.

The driver of the vehicle that allegedly struck Sergeant Phillips had already left the area before officers arrived.

Officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run on Friday around 7:40 a.m. near Mill Avenue and Forest Avenue, outside Kiwanis Park. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Sergeant Phillips with life-threatening injuries. He passed away at the hospital.

Sgt. Phillips joined the ASU Police Department in 1985 and served for 27 years. He retired in 2012.
