Arizona Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema will not run for re-election.

The senator has been seen as a bipartisan dealmaker in her time in the Senate, with most recently leading the charge on a border security bill that ended up getting shot down.

“Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year,” Sinema said in a video Tuesday.

Sinema left the Democratic Party at the end of 2022, after being elected in 2018 following a competitive campaign against Republican Martha McSally, who later ended up serving a brief appointed term in the Senate.

The speculation that she would not seek re-election mounted in recent weeks, as she would have a narrow time frame to file petition signatures, as the deadline is April 1.

Her decision not to run now paves the way for a two-way race between Republican Kari Lake and Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego, who are the respective nominees.

  1. reality is not always comfortable – she made a mistake getting in – she realized – this is no place for me to be – so not being in agreement with her – its encouraging that her soul perhaps survived the experiment.

  2. I do appreciate that she was willing to reach across the aisle. There aren’t many democrats that are willing to do that. She lost my support for good when she voted in favor of the Inflation Reduction Act. It’s a total scam – as proven by the lack of inflation reduction. All it did was increase government spending.

    • the inflation PRODUCTION act worked as advertised
we’re all poorer for it with the 30% inflation it caused

      • Not all of us are poorer…. there’s all the new Feds who probably got hired (and NEVER fired) and the politicians who will get their cut no matter which way things go.

  3. Terrible for Gallego, Great for Lake. Clear choice and Gallego needs to defend Brain Dead Biden.

    • surely the DNC will dump tons money into Gagman
and RNC will also – oops that’s right – Ronna Romney drain RNC $$ before leaving

  4. She knows if she runs the only votes she will take will be from Fallegos and she’s a good little Democrat still so she drops out
