Former President Donald Trump is asking the Arizona State Legislature to “act immediately” to change abortion laws in the state.

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled 4-2 on Tuesday to return to an 1864 law banning all abortions unless a mother’s life is at stake. Democrats and some Republicans in the legislature are hoping to get the law repealed before it takes effect, but efforts to do so were unsuccessful as of the latest floor sessions on Wednesday, The Center Square reported.

“The Supreme Court in Arizona went too far on their Abortion Ruling, enacting and approving an inappropriate Law from 1864. So now the Governor and the Arizona Legislature must use HEART, COMMON SENSE, and ACT IMMEDIATELY, to remedy what has happened,” he posted to Truth Social on Friday.

Trump has opposed a federal abortion ban and has called for certain exceptions to some state laws.

“Remember, it is now up to the States and the Good Will of those that represent THE PEOPLE. We must ideally have the three Exceptions for Rape, Incest, and Life of the Mother. This is important! Democrats are the EXTREMISTS – They support Abortion up to the moment of birth, and even execution of Babies, in some cases, after birth. This should not be. Arizona Legislature, please act as fast as possible!” he added.

Many have placed the blame onto the former president for the varying abortion laws nationwide, as he appointed three judges to the United States Supreme Court that went in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade and bringing the issue back to the states.

Some legislative Republicans, like House Speaker Ben Toma, erred against acting too quickly after protests among lawmakers broke out of the House floor on Wednesday.

“The Court’s 47-page ruling was released just yesterday, and we as an elected body are going to take the time needed to listen to our constituents and carefully consider appropriate actions, rather than rush legislation on a topic of this magnitude without a larger discussion,” Toma said in a statement Wednesday.

The legislature is currently meeting on a once-a-week schedule, so it’s unlikely any movement will happen before Wednesday. Hobbs said that a special session is currently not the best option given that the legislature is already in session, and it’s not a guarantee that a repeal would happen.

“It’s not going to be productive to do that at this moment,” she told reporters on Thursday.

  1. I often wonder why so many men favor abortion. Is it a convenient solution when a girlfriend becomes inconveniently pregnant?

  2. We are stuck with 2 old guys who do things their way…we’re between a rock and a hard place! Biden is completely off the rails, however keep ur eyes open! Trump is a spender, a vaxer, and vascilator re: abortion! I will vote Trump and pray even harder that God, the only Almighty and His Son Jesus Christ’s Will be done! Call you legislators with your views!

  3. Trump was right when he said the issue should be left to the states to decide. So now he’s trying to change our state’s policy and he should have kept his mouth shut. If the pro-abortion crowd gets enough signatures for an initiative it will go on the ballot and the state will decide. Trump should keep his mouth shut about this.

    • They already have more than enough signatures, get informed and wake up. Trump is right, if Rs don’t offer an alternative the’ll be destroyed in November. Right now there is no “let the state decide” because no alternative between 100% ban and 100% legal. Dumbo Supreme Court move, but hey, they’re all rich and comfortable.

      • You are wrong. The law as written makes an exception for the life of the mother. As it should. No other exceptions are rational.

  4. The current abortion debate we are currently in is the result of an activist court finding 50 years ago that a woman has a constitutional right to an abortion where said right isn’t enumerated. Obviously societal norms have changed since the 1800’s, but when you add in 50 years of ‘law’ that prohibits States from exercising their 10th Amendment rights under the Constitution, we now have chaos and confusion. A measured approach instead of a knee jerk reaction is needed by the legislature.

  5. I am a pro lifer but I can’t say I completely disagree with Trump. While I don’t support Abortion I do understand the need for one and unless it’s it’s for 3 reasons then I don’t support it at all. Those are the main here. Life of the mother, rape or infects. Other than that if a woman doesn’t want to get pregnant then she should be on the pill or use a condom or both. Men if they do happen to get a woman pregnant they need to step up to the plate and acknowledge their responsibility.

  6. LOL…Trump is back-pedaling this SO FAST, his feet are smoking. The AZ Legislature TOTALLY SCREWED UP by adjourning without repealing it. It will be like what happened to those GOPer fools in the NC General Assembly in 2016 with their idiotic anti-transgender bathroom caper (a local issue there but the NCGA took the bait). In AZ, the Trump forces now realize it will swing the state to the Dimsheviks. What you get with LDS morons that think they can play state politics like Church doctrine & covenants.

    • You have to remember that the majority of those so-called Republicans were friends of John McCain. They are marching to the tune of the McCain machine if they want to keep their campaigns funded.

      • 100% Correct Howard – the ‘issue’ is MaCaininites mudunging the waters for personal gain – I don’t see much difference between them and “D”s –

That “STATE” want’s it to be a ‘D’ State – we’ll see. TRUMPS statement – good reasoning, appropriate in all – interesting that in 1864 this was ‘the issue’ ? Who was planned parenthood then? The Dentist or the Barber? Or the ‘doctor’? enough of an issue – the wrote a law… Wow And no one has noticed this until now?

  7. President Trump wants us to join the modern century but what will AZ do? Procrastinate?
